June 25 Merry Movement

Today we will get ourselves moving merrily along with a challenging combo tabata of high knees and side lunges. Do 8 rounds total and 4 rounds each of each exercise, the rounds are 20 seconds of intense work and 10 seconds of rest.  To do high knees properly check out these instructions from the “30 day  fitness challenge.com” folks : “1. Stand straight with the feet hip width apart, looking straight ahead and arms hanging down by your side. 2. Jump from one foot to the other at the same time lifting your knees as high as possible, hip height is advisable. 3. The arms should be following the motion. 4.Touch the ground with the balls of your feet. If jumping is too hard on you you can do the variation where instead of jumping from one foot to the other at a fast pace, you just lift one leg up to hip height then return that to the ground and lift the opposite leg.” Fitday.com has these instructions for a proper side lunge: ” To begin, stand with your hands on your hips with your feet hip-width apart. Lunge out to your right with your right leg. You want to land with your heel first followed by your forefoot. Flex your right knee and hip to lower your body. Your right knee and hip should be at a 90-degree angle. Your left leg should be at a slight angle. To return to standing, extend your right hip and knee until they are straight and you return to the starting position. Repeat on your left side with your left leg to complete one repetition.”  Kettlebell folks you can substitute a combo tabata of  high pulls and goblet squats! Toughies can do both tabatas!  Self care activity for the day is take a long bath or shower, and really let yourself feel relaxed and spoiled.  If you have an extra moment for pampering then dry brush your skin before you get into your bath or shower, and then put coconut oil (or other favorite edible oil) on your skin afterwards. That will just add to the treat.  Be grateful for the hot water that comes right into your home and enjoy a modern luxury we often take for granted.  Let your muscles relax and let any troubles you are carrying go down with the water out the drain.
