June 29 Monday Movement Moment

June 29 Monday Movement Moment

Let’s get the week rolling with our Monday movement moment of a  combo tabata of side shuffle and squat thrust jumps, 4 rounds of each exercise for a total of 8 rounds of 20 seconds work and 10 seconds rest= 4 minutes. To do a proper side shuffle, 1) Stand with feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, arms bent at sides. 2) Slide left foot toward right, then step to right with right foot. 3) Repeat 3 times, then reverse, leading with left foot. 4) Continue alternating till the 20 seconds is up.  To do a proper squat thrust jump, 1) Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, arms by sides. 2) Squat down to bring hands on floor outside feet. 3) Jump legs back into a full push-up. 4) Hop feet to inside of hands, jump up, and extend arms. 4) Repeat till the 20 seconds is done. Kettlebell enthusiasts can substitute the side shuffle with side bends and add a Russian swing to the top of the squat thrusts for the tabata, still doing 4 sets each.  Monday it is easy to forget about ourselves in our effort to get our week going.  One of the ways to be present to ourselves is through finding the humor in our life.  Today’s self care activity is to find something to laugh about.. it could be anything… a joke, a cat video, a silly story, the way your hair looks first thing in the morning… whatever strikes your funny bone.  You could even laugh at the thought of me holding up the Taj Mahal with my little hand. “To succeed in life, you need three things: a wishbone, a backbone, and a funny bone.”
