August 24 Get Moving Monday & Free Kettlebell Class This Tuesday

August 24, Monday and got to get moving again with a lovely strengthening tabata of planks. 8 rounds of holding a plank for 20 seconds and then resting 10 seconds for 8 rounds= 4 minutes total. This is a simple, quick but incredible effective way to increase your core strength and stamina. You will feel your heart working and body heating up as you hold the plank. Focus on keeping everything pulled in around the spine and engaged; also slightly corkscrew your hands into ground externally to protect your wrists elbows and shoulders. There are two ways to make your workout tougher if you have more time or want a bigger challenge. One way to increase intensity is to do a different plank variation each round including right arm up, left arm up, left leg up, right arm up, and right arm and left leg up and left arm and right leg up….all pretty challenging.  Another way to make it tougher is to make the work portion of the tabata longer and keep the rest portion the same. So for example the Tabata could be 8 rounds of 30 secs of work with 10 seconds rest=5 minutes 20 seconds total. Or it could be 8 rounds of 60 seconds of work with 10 seconds of rest=9 minutes 20 second workout which is still under our 10 minute or less workout! Your tabata app should let you change the work time easily. Tomorrow, Tuesday August 25, I am beginning a new series of kettle bell classes at Ekah Yoga Studio at 615 N Fairview by the b-line, in the old Multi yoga studio space. 5:15 is a 30 minute workout for folks who know how to use the kettlebell but enjoy working out with a class and want to keep good form. Warmup, workout & walkout in 30 minutes! Fun, fast, effective! At 6, I will offer an hour long beginners class that will include warming up, instruction for how to use kb properly, and a quick workout integrating what we learned. This class will give you the basics to have your own kettlebell practice and use them safely, effectively for overall conditioning and greater strength and flexibility. Kettlebells are the bomb-diggity–and you can quote me on that! See if it is right for you as first class is free! Check out ekahyoga.com to register for class or just show up on Tuesday and we will do it together. There are a lot of lovely yoga classes being offered at Ekah yoga and some great member deals and great prices on yoga. Even if you aren’t interested in kettlebells, you should check out their website, as it is fun to have a new resource for yoga in town. Blessings to all the lovelies at Mukti Yoga for providing a lovely place to practice while they did. Glad another yoga studio was able take the space when it wasn’t practical for the folks at Mukti to continue.
