August 29 and today’s post almost slip slided away from me….only when I woke up wondering what my workout was this morning did I realize I had forgotten to post last night. My day goes so much better if I get a short tabata in before I really go at it. Today’s tabata is either the Russian kettlebell swing or burpees. A tabata set is 20 seconds of as many burpees (probably only 3-5) or as many russian kettlebell swings as you can execute followed by a 10 second rest for 8 sets which equals 4 minutes. Both of these tabatas are challenging, if you start to lose it before you are done, just finish out the tabata with an exercise you can do… so you could switch to side bends if you were doing the swings or you could switch to say lunges if you were dong the burpees. Also if you have any trouble finishing it probably means you could pace yourself better. Tabatas are tough because the idea is to go hard and intense for the 20 seconds of work. You want to go as hard as you can yet still be able to finish. If you are feeling like a beast and want a serious challenge, do the two tabatas consecutively, one right after the other. Also folks who are just learning the kettlebell swing can do the tabata without a weight, just doing the movement. Or do the kettlebell swing tabata, 4 rounds with a weight and 4 rounds without a weight. You are always the expert of your own body! These thrive movement moments are meant to support you in your health and vitality. These short blasts of activity can help improve your strength, stamina, and dynamic balance while jump starting your metabolism. For your self care activity of the day think of something you find particularly fun to do today, and do it. Saturdays are a day most of us have off from work, so celebrate that with a moment of real fun. Don’t let the Saturday slip slide away from you~seize the day & have fun!
