Today’s workout is a tabata of jumping jacks and high knees, doing both exercises 4 sets each for 8 sets total. Each set is 20 seconds of as many jumping jacks or high knees as possible, then a 10 second rest (x8=4 minutes). To do proper jumping jacks: “Stand tall with your feet together and your hands at your sides. Quickly raise your arms above your head while jumping your feet out to the sides. Immediately reverse the movement to jump back to the standing position.” To do proper high knees: “Stand straight with the feet hip width apart, looking straight ahead and arms hanging down by your side. Jump from one foot to the other at the same time lifting your knees as high as possible, hip height is advisable. The arms should be following the motion. Touch the ground with the balls of your feet.” Get your heart rate up and warm up your body as we savor the last of the warm light. For our self care activity, try to give yourself at least 10 minutes in the sunshine today. The days are shortening and the nights are getting longer, so this is an important moment to take in as much vitamin D in the form of sunlight that we can. Also if you are susceptible to depression, gut issues or obesity then getting enough vitamin D is especially important. Vitamin D is not actually a regular vitamin but is actually a steroid hormone that you are designed to obtain primarily through sun exposure, not via your diet.
