Saturday is a fun day to give ourselves a little challenge. Today’s tabata is burpees and we will try to do as many as we can (aiming to at least get 3 burpees completed in 20 seconds but ideally 4-6 burpees each set). A tabata is a method of workout where you go hard for 20 seconds and then rest for 10 seconds, so 30 seconds total to make a set and there are 8 sets,(30s X 8) which equals four minutes. Kettlebell folk can substitute a swing for the jump up. Burpees 101: How to Do A Burpee, sums it up like this: “1. Stand up straight. 2. Get in squat position with hands on the floor in front of you. 3. Kick your feet back into a push up position and lower body to the floor. 4. Return your feet back to the squat as fast as possible. Immediately jump up in the air as high as you can. Add a little clap for pizazz!” That is a pretty concise summary but remember if you can’t do a regular burpee you can always adjust it. If you don’t want to jump your feet back, you can simply step your feet back. You don’t have to do the push up either; or you can drop your knees and do knee push ups. Make the exercise work for you. Do as much as you can and push yourself a bit. But not too much, it is Saturday! For your self care today, brush your skin with a dry brush towards the heart. Think about stimulating and circulating your lymph. Then rub coconut or some other oil that delights you on your skin and then pat it dry. Have a wonderful Saturday!
