This is the Monday of the week of Thanksgiving, which is often a challenging week for all of us to make healthy food and exercise choices. Let’s get real with ourselves and make some decisions about how to have the best week possible. In terms of food choices, I would like to offer two strategies for having your best Thanksgiving yet. Let yourself tune into your gratitude for the food and for its preparation. Before you eat a single bite, take a moment to feel truly thankful. Then I challenge you to only eat what brings you pleasure. I know you are thinking, well then I will eat too much. But I don’t think so… if you really pay attention you will notice a moment when you stop fully enjoying the food. If you stop when the pleasure level starts to go down or ceases then you will save your body. Only eat what and when you are getting full pleasure from it! As for the exercise, I know it can be a challenge to fit in during the busy week. But remember that our lovely tabatas are only 4 minutes!! And you don’t need equipment or special clothes. The tabatas are a quick way to let off tension and shift your energy. Do a tabata whenever you need an attitude adjustment! Today’s workout is 30 seconds of helicopter twists and 30 seconds of gentle jumping jacks, then a tabata of squats or Russian kettlebell swings. For the tabata do 20 seconds of intense work (squats or swings), followed by 10 seconds rest x 8 sets total. Today I am thankful for the first snow that came down hard and melted within the hour. The snow was beautiful, and yet today it was warm and sunny enough to plant bulbs. Putting the bulbs into the cold, hard ground seemed like such an act of hope and faith. It is hard to believe a flower will come out of that bulb in the spring. But today I planted some hope and beauty for another Spring day.
