Happy Thanksgiving! A holiday centered around good food and gratitude is my kind of celebration. I try to make the holiday a real treat by keeping my mind focused on things that make me happy and make me feel grateful. This doesn’t mean I don’t feel other emotions. Personally this is an anniversary of the death of my daughter, so I always have moments of real grief, but I guide myself back to thoughts of thankfulness. It is a form of discipline, but one that rewards me with joy and peace. Another important form of discipline for the holidays is to only eat the food that feels good and brings real pleasure to my body. I find if I bring my full awareness to my eating, I taste and enjoy the food more and eat less. Lastly, the holidays always go better with some movement discipline. Exercising helps my digestion and mood. Let’s make the workout easy to accomplish today. I hope the weather will entice us all to take a lovely walk. Today for our strengthening functional movement let’s do a simple tabata of 6 sets of squats and 2 sets of helicopter twists, 8 sets total. Kettlebell folks could substitute Russian two handed swings for the squats. Each set is 30 seconds long, 20 seconds work and 10 seconds rest. Twists are really good for our digestion, and both moves will combat the sitting fatigue. Just these little disciplines of gratitude, awareness, and movement help me have really satisfying holidays. I am grateful for my family and my dear friends! I am grateful for a moment to pause and be together. I am thankful for you dear reader! What are you thankful for today?
