Pushing Through the Blahs to Find Your Groove

Today I had a moment when I could workout, I could move my body, and I felt I should. But blah. My energy felt low and stuck.  I had a ton of other “pressing” things I also could convince myself needed to be done, and easily push aside my body’s need for strengthening movement.  Unfortunately, I have been down that path before and it leaves me exhausted, depleted, flabby and sad.  I am really trying to create healthy habits for myself.  Just then my bright daughter showed up, and she too felt like she wanted to move but lacked energy.  Now we were together and we could help each other.  I have been enjoying the energy behind Beyonce’s Formation video. It is an empowerment jam, and it makes me want to move.  We put the video on so we could see the dancers and did our own versions of the moves belting out the words, “got hot sauce in my bag, swag.”  Now feeling warmed up, we played N.E.R.D’s She Gotta Move and Justin Timberlake’s Pusher Love Girl, while we did kettlebell swings, snatches, high pulls and one arm swings  (we aimed to get at least 100 kb moves in) dancing in between moves as an active rest.  It was 15, minutes of fun! Sweaty, strengthening, and increase your mobility kind of fun!  Now I am lucky to have such a fine and fun daughter to get my groove going.  I highly recommend that you look for music and people that inspire you to want to move and move in ways that make you feel happier and more alive.  My whole day was better for that 15 minutes.
