“You have to sniff out joy, keep your nose to the joy-trail.” ~ Buffy Sainte-Marie
Day 5, of our 30 days of exquisite self care, and today let’s keep our noses on the joy-trail! One of the main ways to “sniff out joy” is to pay close attention to what is happening in the moment. One of the things I am discovering in this journey is how much I do take care of myself but just don’t realize it. Just tuning in to the fact that I am caring for myself seems to help me get more out of it. When I am aware that I am doing an action to support myself I seem to get more support out of the action. Today’s self care idea comes to me from my lovely friend Christy Ochoa, and it is a great way to stay on the joy trail. The activity is to pay close attention and notice what is the most beautiful thing you see today. Acknowledge the beauty. Christy goes one step further and keeps a journal of the most beautiful thing she experiences each day. Writing it down helps reinforce the experience. Beauty can be in the strangest places: the most beautiful thing I saw all day is a video about tough ass bikers being supportive and protective towards children who have suffered abuse of some kind. They are willing to escort them to school or court and show up in numerous ways for the kids. They create safety and a sense of belonging for children who have lost both. It made me cry tears of heart connection. This kind of beauty is soul food.
