Today my self care is one of the simplest but best self care techniques: a steamy hot epsom salt bath! I love baths. THe water enveloping me and heating me through feels so relaxing. When I add 1-2 cups of epsom salts, you add to the healing potential of your bath. Epsom salts are magnesium sulfate which is a form of magnesium. Magnesium is a cofactor in more than 300 enzyme systems that regulate diverse biochemical reactions in the body, including protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, and blood pressure regulation. You need it for strong bones and the synthesis of RNA and DNA. Magnesium is also a muscle relaxer, which is why it is a top choice for laxatives. It also explains why it can be hard at times to get enough magnesium from our food. It can just go right through us. Soaking in an epsom bath for 20 minutes allows your body to get a strong dose of muscle relaxing magnesium right where we need it. Epsom baths do pull out the lactic acid and soreness from our muscles. It is a simple and relatively cheap way to lose the achy soreness and change your consciousness. Add some essential oils for even more yummy-ness!
