A few years ago I read the book Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed. It is the memoir of her journey to hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State, alone and without any experience or training. The journey is more than she bargains for and it tests her and yet ultimately helps her heal from her mother’s death and her divorce. The thing that stuck with me the most about the book was something her mother told her before she died. She said, “There is a sunrise and sunset in every day, put yourself in the path of beauty.” So it felt like truly radical self care to see both the sunrise and sunset for multiple days in a row. It is amazing how beauty brings me back to the present moment. Sometimes when you are focusing on being present it is hard to keep up with all the details of one’s life. I have been remiss in sharing all my self care moments but I haven’t been remiss in having moments… one of my favorite ways right now is to put myself in the path of beauty. How are you finding ways to nurture your soul? Care for your wellbeing? What’s the best or most beautiful thing you have seen lately?
